Next month is Plastic Free July. Put on by the Plastic Free Foundation in Australia, this has grown to include countries around the world. During the month of July we encourage our customers to participate, even if it's only at the market.
The challenge can be as simple as giving up produce bags when you're at the market or as difficult as going entirely plastic free for the month. There are ideas in the document link below from the Plastic Free Foundation.
If this is something that excites you check out their website (button below). You can sign up for the challenge, commit to what you will give up, print off your own copy of the above document, learn about ways to live plastic free, learn ways to get your community involved, connect with other participants and more. We encourage you to give up single use items at the Downtown Growers' Market as a minimum commitment!
We want to share your participation! However big or small you're welcome to:
We will be sharing ways throughout the month that the market and vendors are avoiding plastic as well.
This year at the Market we are working with our local Slow Food extension: Slow Food ABQ. They will be joining our market throughout the season to give seasonal cooking demos. Ingredients will be purchased from our growers the morning of to show case local foods, give you new recipe ideas and offer a chance to taste some delicious produce!
Slow Food ABQ will be at the Market 9-11a on June 29.
Slow Food ABQ promotes food that is “good, clean, and fair.” It is our local chapter of a global movement that is taking place around the world. To learn more go to this website: https://www.slowfoodusa.org/
